Registration and applicatio -Registration of marriage-

When two non-Japanese marry, of when a non-Japanese marries a Japanese partner, provide the following documents when applying to register the marriage.

[If the marriage took place in the native country of the non-Japanese partner (registration as the report)]
(1) Marriage registration form
(2) Marriage registration certificate (issued in the native country) together with Japanese translation
(3) Copy of family register and Inkan of the Japanese partner
(4) Certificate of nationality (certificate of birth and Japanese translation, passport, etc.)
(5) Certificate of registered matters in the alien registration

[If you marry in Japan (to apply for registration)]
(1) Marriage registration form (Two witnesses are necessary.)
(2) Certificate of legal capacity to contract marriage (issued by the embassy) with Japanese translation
(3) Copy of family register and Inkan of the Japanese partner
(4) Certificate of nationality (certificate of birth and Japanese translation, passport, etc.)
(5) Certificate of registered matters in the alien registration

These documents are for a general registration of marriage. Depending on the nationality of the partner to be married, however, the registration application may not be accepted immediately. Or, you may need to provide other documents and complete other procedures. Therefore, you are requested to consult with us directly at the reception counter of the Citizens section.
