Nursery schools take care of children from five months to immediately before elementary school. There are six municipal nursery schools and twelve private nursery schools in Atsugi. Nurseries are usually available between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM. Parents are responsible for dropping off and picking up their children. The fee for these schools is determined based on the parents' income tax payments for the previous year. <Contacts> Child Welfare Section, Phone (046) 225-2231 A child allowance is provided to those parents whose income for the previous year was below a given threshold and whose children have not yet reached Junior high school age. A child-care allowance is provided to mother-parent families whose income for the previous year was less than a given threshold, and who have children of up to 18 years old. Also, the Parenting Support Center provides these families with information on how to bring up children as well as a range of aids.
