In case of emergency -Fire and Ambulance-

Fire
[Dealing with a fire]
If you seen a fire that has broken out, first raise the alarm to get everybody out of the building, and then dial "119" to call the fire department. Never try to put out a fire by yourself or with your family. Failing to inform others immediately could lead to injury or death.
Remember: "Be quick to notify others," "Be quick to extinguish the fire," "Be quick to get out."

Ambulance
[Dealing with sudden illness or serious injury]
If you or someone around you suddenly falls ill or is injured, such that you need urgent medical attention, dial "119" to call for an ambulance.

Dialing 119
(1) If you dial "119," you will hear "This is 119. Fire or ambulance?"
Clearly state "Fire!" or "Ambulance!" Also, in the case of a fire, clearly state what is burning. For an ambulance, clearly say what has happened.
(2) Next, the operator will ask for your location. If you don't know the address of the fire, clearly state the nearest landmark. (For example, "East of such-and-such a store," or "North of such-and-such a factory.")
(3) The operator will ask for your name.
(4) The operator will ask you for the telephone number from which you are calling.

An ambulance will be dispatched with its siren sounding. When you hear the siren, get out of the house to help the ambulance find you.

Once the ambulance reaches you, the crew will ask you what has happened to the sick/injured person. Please cooperate with the ambulance crew.

Calling the emergency services from a cell phone
If you dial 119 from your cell phone, and you are close to the edge of the city, you may be connected to the fire station of the neighboring city. In such a case, clearly state that you are in "Atsugi." If you do not know where you are, ask other people near you or use a public phone.
After hanging up the phone, the fire station center may call you back to request information. Please do not turn off your cell phone.

Please be careful:
Note that 119 is only for emergency calls. For inquiries about emergency hospitals and disasters, use the fire station telephone service (Phone 046-225-1341).
