Enabling Foreigners to Live Comfortably in Their Communities:
A Message to all Foreigners and Employers
| [Help Prevent Illegal Employment] |
| ・ |
Illegal employment, such as the employment of people on "temporary visitor" visas and the employment of people who are residing in Japan illegally, is a growing problem. |
| ・ |
Illegally employed foreigners cause a variety of problems not only in terms of labor issues, but in many arenas including public morals and public security. |
| ・ |
Illegally employed foreigners may face some serious human rights abuses, including working for low wages and being unable to obtain adequate relief if they are involved an occupational accident. |
| [What constitutes illegal employment?] |
| ・ |
Labor activities for which a person receives payment, which are performed by a person who entered the country illegally or is currently living in the country illegally. |
| ・ |
Labor activities for which a person receives payment, which are performed by foreigners who have resident status but who have not obtained a permit to engage in activities other than those permitted under their resident status.
|
| * |
If such a permit is obtained, the person can work legally.
|
| [Confirm the Resident Status] |
| ・ |
When employing a foreign resident, be sure to examine their passport and check their resident status. |
| ・ |
Foreigners with a resident status that does not allow them to work, such as "temporary visitor," may not obtain employment. |
