Group-based resource recovery |
| |
To reduce and recycle refuse, the city promotes the group-based, ongoing recovery
of recyclable paper, clothes, cans, bottles, etc. that are generated by homes.
If a group is registered with the city as a resource recovery cooperative group
(children's association, PTA, etc.), the city will provide the relevant group
with funding equal to the value of the recovered resources. |

Recovery of waste edible oil |
| |
To preserve the environment and maintain the efficiency of the sewerage system,
as well as to improve citizens' consciousness about recycling, the city promotes
the group-based recovery of waste edible oil that is generated by homes. If a
group is registered with the city as a cooperative group (women's association,
children's association, etc., consisting of more than ten persons), the city will
provide the relevant group with funding equal to the value of the recovered resources.

Subsidies and support for purchase of garbage disposer |
| |
Those people wanting to purchase a garbage disposer (an electrical device
that disposes of kitchen garbage by using useful microorganisms) to reduce the
amount of kitchen garbage they discharge from their homes may apply to the city
for a subsidy.
Also, the city sells and supports the use of garbage disposal containers (composters)
to compost kitchen garbage. |

Recycling events |
| |
To ensure that as many citizens as possible know the importance of reducing
their refuse and recycling, the city holds a "Refuse and Life Exhibition,"
"Citizens' Get-Together Market," etc. Details are given in "Public
Announcement Atsugi" and "My Town Atsugi." |

Atsugi Slim Store |
| |
As part of the activities to promote a reduction in the amount of refuse as
well as to help develop the consciousness of the citizens to reduce their refuse,
and to help conserve limited resources, the city recognizes those shops that aggressively
use slimmed-down packaging and which encourage the use of shopping bags to reduce
the amount of refuse, as "Atsugi Slim Stores." Citizens are requested
to use these "Slim Stores" whenever possible to help reduce the amount
of refuse.
