[Medical checkup prior to enrollment] Prior to school enrollment, you will be sent a notice to attend a medical checkup for your child. The notice will inform you of the date and location for the medical checkup and should reach you by the middle of the October of the year prior to that in which your child will enter public elementary school (This notice is also sent to non-Japanese resident families at the same time, and is in addition to the school enrollment procedure that must be completed by the end of November if you wish to enroll your child in a public school). Note that you should contact the Health and School-Lunch Section early in either of the following cases:

The notice will specify the names of the elementary schools in which your child is eligible to enroll, the date of the enrollment ceremony, and the parents' orientation schedule. If you do not receive a school enrollment notice, if the information on the notice includes an error, or if your child is to enter a private school, contact the School Education Section early. For those non-Japanese residents wishing to enroll their children in a public school, you must complete the necessary paperwork at the School Management Section by the end of November. This will inform you of the names of the junior high schools in which your child is eligible to enroll, the date of the enrollment ceremony, and the parents' orientation schedule. If you do not receive this school enrollment notice, or if you are intending to enroll your child in a national or private junior high school, contact the School Education Section early. For those non-Japanese residents wishing to enroll their child in a public school, you must complete the necessary paperwork at the School Management Section by the end of November. In this case, bring your alien registration card and official name stamp with you. <Contacts> School Education Section, Phone (046) 225-2650 [Moving in (when transferring from a school outside to one inside the city, or when moving within the city)] Obtain a student registration certificate from your child's current school, and any other documents that may be necessary, and submit them when you make your "address moving-out and -in notification" at the Citizens Section. Complete the necessary paperwork at either the Citizens Section or School Education Section. [Moving out (when transferring from school inside to another outside city)] Obtain a student registration certificate from your child's current school, and any other documents that may be necessary, submit them when you make your "address moving-out notification" at the Citizens Section of your current address, and then complete the paperwork necessary for transferring schools at the Board of Education of your new address. This system is designed to help qualifying families by covering part of the cost of their child's schooling, school lunches, medical care, etc. to ensure that all children fully benefit from an elementary and junior high school education.
